Common Questions, Practical Answers
Straightforward answers to your questions about long-range WiFi.
If your internet signal doesn't reach your shed, workshop, paddock, or other areas of your property, TX-E has built products for you. TX-E Connect extends your existing home internet — across your entire property using long-range WiFi HaLow technology, covering distances and terrain that a standard router simply can't reach.
A mobile hotspot relies on mobile network coverage, which is often non-existent in rural and regional areas. TX-E Roam works differently — it connects to the long-range WiFi HaLow network created by TX-E Connect, so as long as you're within range of your property's TX-E network, you have internet access regardless of mobile signal.
Yes, we would recommend the Connect - Indoor product which is perfect for extending WiFi (you will need at least 2 units for this to work). WiFi HaLow has 6x the penetration capability of normal WiFi and is exceptionally good for getting challenging houses connected.
WiFi HaLow (802.11ah) is a wireless standard that operates at sub-1 GHz frequencies, giving it significantly greater range and better ability to penetrate obstacles than standard 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi. For rural properties, this means reliable coverage over much longer distances and through terrain, vegetation, and buildings that would stop a normal router dead. Importantly, WiFi HaLow is not available in standard off-the-shelf devices. TX-E provides the hardware that creates and bridges a HaLow network so your everyday devices can connect.
TX-E Connect has been designed as a system that anyone can set up. Using the TX-E Connect mobile app, you configure each device by connecting via Bluetooth. There are no cables to run between units, no specialist tools required, and no technical background needed.

Yes. the Connect products can connect wirelessly to your Starlink router and extends that connection across your property using WiFi HaLow. It's one of the most popular setups for rural properties in Australia — giving you whole-property coverage from your existing Starlink dish. A second Connect or Roam device is then needed at your next location(s) to get WiFi your devices can use.
Yes, we have implemented our devices for open use with the WiFi HaLow standard including the Halowlink routers made by Morse Micro.
You need your existing internet connection and at least two TX-E devices. One Connect device sits near your router, connects to your WiFi, and broadcasts a long-range HaLow signal across your property. A second Connect or Roam device at each location you want covered receives that signal and rebroadcasts standard WiFi for your everyday devices. Setup is done through the TX-E Connect mobile app.
TX-E Connect - Outdoor is weatherproof and designed for external mounting, with an improved 2.4 GHz antenna for better short-range penetration — ideal for elevated outdoor positions. TX-E Connect - Indoor is for use inside buildings only and must not be mounted outdoors. For metal-clad sheds or insulated buildings, placing Connect - Indoor at a window is an effective way to bring the signal inside.
Any device that connects to standard WiFi will work — phones, tablets, laptops, smart farming equipment, security cameras. No special hardware or modifications needed on your devices.
Key factors include terrain (hills block line of sight), building materials (corrugated iron and foil insulation significantly reduce signal), and dense vegetation. Mounting TX-E Connect - Outdoor as high as possible and minimising obstructions in the signal path will maximise your coverage. See our Knowledge Hub for a detailed guide.
